Welcome to the latest edition of Animal Aid news.

Animal Aid Special Surgery Fund at work We are not sure if you are aware but we have a special surgery fund to help pay for some of the more expensive operations that would otherwise preclude certain cats and dogs from being placed up for adoption. This fantastic fund allows us to undertake procedures such as knee reconstructions, eye removal, corrective surgery for entropion, ectropion and cherry eye, amputations and orthopaedic procedures.
So where does the money to pay for these operations come from?
On the first Saturday of every month a band of pet loving people meet at various points along the Warburton Trail to take a walk, have a chat and socialise their dogs and themselves. Every one that comes along pays a $5 donation to help raise these much needed funds.
Our most recent beneficiary of the Special Surgery Fund is Milly the boxer cross who was transferred to us from Bass Coast Shire Council for rehoming. She came to us with what appeared to be an old eye injury that had been left untreated. Milly met every rehoming criterion as far as her temperament was concerned but there was no way we could leave the eye as it was, we had no option but to remove it.
Knowing that we had to do the surgery is one thing but paying for it is another. We do not recoup any of the veterinary expense of such operations from the adoptive family and we cover all follow up treatment that is required post surgery. Thanks to the walking group who assist us with this financial burden.

Milly is such a sweet girl and she is recovering well from her surgery, she can’t wait to go home with her new family who are just as eager to welcome her into their home. We hope to update you with a family snap shot in the near future.

Thank you for all your support.
