Surrender
If only we lived in an ideal world where every aspect of our lives ran smoothly and resulted in a positive outcome. This is however unrealistic, and the truth of the matter is that sometimes things go wrong. Sometimes we need to take some responsibility for what eventuates but other times it is just plain out of our hands.

Families and individuals who experience changing or unforseen circumstances need somewhere to turn to if their pets no longer fit in with future plans and need to find them a new family.

There are many reasons why some one may need to relinquish a pet and every case has its own set of peculiarities. Regardless of what your circumstance, please explore all of the possibilities before you resort to giving your pet away. For example; there may be someone in your extended family that is interested in taking them on.

In some cases behavioural issues will make it impossible for Animal Aid to rehome some animals. Often the reasons they are relinquised are the same reasons that we can't look at rehoming them. Chronic escapism,  anti-social behaviour, overt aggression and anxiety are some of the common problems and are very hard for your average family to deal with.

Adopting a dog from a shelter should be an enjoyable experience for all, not a heart ache. Animal Aid prides itself ensuring the best possible outcome for all involved.

Animal Aid is a Not for Profit open door shelter that will never refuse an animal in need of our care. In maintaining this policy we ultimately wear the financial burden of offering this service. It is a common misconception that we recover our costs by charging an shelter fee. This couldn't be further from the truth.

We ask for a donation from everyone who finds themselves in need of our services but it is not a prerequisite of us accepting the animal. Please understand that there are more than just the veterinary costs involved in rehoming a cat or a dog. Animal Aid takes pride in the lengths we are prepared to go to ensure that each individual animal get the best possible chance of finding a new and forever home. Many hours are put into not only the temperament assessment and required rehabilitation that is necessary, but also the suitable matching of prospective adoptive families.

Meet your Match™ Adoption Program
When you visit an animal shelter and a furry little face catches your eye, how do you know if they are the right pet for you?

Your expectations of owning a pet will impact the bonds you'll form with your new companion in the weeks, months and years to come. Animal Aid is here to help you meet the type of dog that's right for you and your lifestyle.

The Meet Your Match™ Canine-ality Adoption Program is designed to increase the likelihood that dogs adopted from our shelter will be accepted into their new homes as welcome members of the family.

Meet Your Match™ helps form lasting bonds by matching your expectations of pet ownership to a dog’s behavior. Matching the “Canine-ality” of the dogs in the shelter with the type of dog you're looking for lays the foundation for the human-canine bond to develop, increasing the potential for a successful, permanent placement.
