Animal Aid provides a class where your puppy can begin to learn to socialise and interact with humans and other dogs; is a vital part in a young dog's development. It is important to start teaching your puppy early if you want an adult dog that is well socialised with both people and other dogs. These classes are also a great opportunity for new owners to learn all about their canine companion, and about canine behaviour in general. Each week covers a different aspect about the development of your pup, and what you need to know to make sure that this part of their lives is both fun and instructional. Our classes are held over a four week period, and are open for all puppies aged between 8 and 24 weeks old. You will need to bring a puppy that has had their first puppy vaccination (usually given at 6 to 8 weeks of age). Also, a hungry pup - no dinner first, please! This makes training using food rewards more successful. Our small class sizes, means they are adequately supervised at all times and we use gentle methods that focus on encouraging and rewarding the right behaviour with praise, food or games not punishing undesirable ones. Other topics we will cover include socialization, housetraining, play biting and chewing. Whilst we cover command based skills such as sit, drop and stay, we are more interested in helping your puppy learn social skills and basic manners. If you have never thought of attending a puppy preschool, then we urge you to consider doing so. It is a great experience for both the puppy and the owner, and can set you on the right path to having a great relationship with your pet.
