With millions of dollars being raised since the first op shop opened in Blackburn South in 1978, Animal Aid in Coldstream, Bairnsdale and Sale, each directly benefit from the profits generated in their local op shop. More than 80 dedicated volunteers solely run the op shops, ensuring that all raised funds directly go back to their local Animal Aid shelter to subsidise the care and upkeep of the animals. Animal Aid is committed in providing top care for impounded or stray animals. This includes animals getting vet checked, groomed and trained - all ready for a potential new and loving home. From handmade crafts, to second hand clothes, furniture and bric a brac, the four op shops receive an array of sellable items, ready for a new home. According to Karen Blizzard, Animal Aid's Volunteer Promotional Manager, the opportunity shops is just another way that the wider community can assist in raising funds so that Animal Aid can continue to provide the highest care and the best possible opportunity of finding a new and permanent home for the animals. "Not everyone wants or feels comfortable working directly with the animals and volunteering, buying or donating to the opportunity shop is a perfect way to play a significant role in the development and growth of Animal Aid," she said. "Because of the continued success of the opportunity shops, we are opening a new shop in Sale that will assist with the development of the new facility in Sale, as well as looking at opportunities to open a shop in metropolitan Melbourne." "Op shops continue to be a popular hub for Victorians in purchasing good quality items at reasonable prices. Animal Aid is determined to do just the same within the shelter where deserving and loving dogs and cats are meticulously prepared for new homes." "To anybody who would like to become a volunteer at any of the op shops or at Animal Aid, please call 9739 0300. We would love to have you on board." |
