Bushfire Update - 2/03/09 Print E-mail

It has been a very busy weekend with animals coming and going constantly. People who have made alternative living arrangements have been collecting their treasured pets, equally many have been dropped off in preparation for tomorrow's dreadful weather forecast. The resounding response to this option being available is one of relief; it is one thing less to worry about.

We are absolutely thrilled to report that our Benefit Dinner held at Leonda By The Yarra last night was an overwhelming success. To everyone responsible for making it happen, words cannot express how grateful we are. The Leonda staff donating their night's wages is just one example of how they went above and beyond to make sure that the evening generated as much money as possible. Also to the dinner guests who attended, your generosity is unprecedented in Animal Aid event history, thank you just doesn't seem enough.

Nell Thompson, Animal Aid General Manager, conveyed just how traumatic it was on that Black Saturday for the Kinglake residents. She detailed the events that followed and the mobilisation of Animal Aid into the affected areas. Lesley Humphreys represented the Board of Trustees and delivered a moving slide show that really gave the audience an accurate depiction of the important role that the shelter has played in this tragedy.

When we get a chance to breath a little easier we will make these presentations available for you to view on this website. So until tomorrow we will brace ourselves for what the weather delivers all being well we will have a quiet day and we will update you on one of our burns patients.
