Animal Aid News Break Print E-mail

We hope that everyone had a really happy Easter, that travellers have returned home safely, newly acquired companions are settling in well and chocolates were not on the menu for pets. There are quite a few little bits of news to catch up on so this should be an information packed edition.

Firstly, as a result of the end of Daylight Savings, we will no longer be providing twilight adoptions on Thursday and Friday evenings for now. It has proven very popular and we hope to run it again when Daylight savings starts again.

We had a bumper Easter weekend for rehoming with 8 dogs and 11 cats finding new homes, despite the public holidays we were very busy indeed. We just love being able to see them heading out the door, both two and four legged alike, filled with optimism, excitement and enthusiasm that they have met their perfect match.

We send them on their way with a quiet confidence that we have done as much as we can to ensure that are going to be right for each other. And what’s more, we have the necessary back up support to give them the best chance of staying together permanently. As pleased as we are to see so many little ones go home this week end, we are still in desperate need of homes for our cats and kittens.

We are up to our ears and we just don’t know what to do.

It is hard to believe that there are so many beautiful cats that cannot find a home. I walk around our cattery at the moment, greeted one after the other, by sweet, friendly, cuddly, well socialised cats and kittens. So please, if you or anyone you know is ready to bring a fantastic feline into their home, please, please, please send them our way.

On the subject of cats, we do have a positive update for you on how we went the Who’s for Cats Campaign which ran during the month of March. So far we have been instrumental in helping 17 cats to become a permanent family member when previously they were just semi-owned, but this number will grow over the next few weeks. We still have quite a few booked in for desexing during April because we were unable to fit them in to our busy March surgery schedule.

Meeting the most basic needs of so many of our fellow creatures each year is a constant juggling act both logistically and financially. Providing the extra services such as discount desexing is high on our priority list and it is hoped that we can become more active in this area in the near future.

We will have some news to announce in the next edition regarding a long awaited development, but I don’t want to spoil the surprise you will just have to wait till then.

Watch this space.
