Hello from the Coldstream Boarding Kennels and Cattery,

Here at CBK we are so proud of the job that we do - caring for the pets of the many Animal Aid supporters who trust us with their cherished four legged family members. This is an often forgotten way of supporting our shelter, but all the revenue that we raise goes back into providing a second chance to lost and relinquished cats and dogs.

You could be forgiven for thinking that all the good news stories come out of the shelter, but we pride ourselves on providing a superior level of care. We have an intimate knowledge of each individual that comes to stay with us. We see ourselves as an extension of their families and we take this responsibility very seriously. Take the case of Buster Redhead.

Buster and his best mate Nugget have been very welcome visitors of ours for many years now. Late last year we got the sad news that Nugget had passed away and we were all devastated by this news. Our hearts went out to the family but especially to Buster, how would he cope without her.

The next time Buster (cream coloured kelpie x) came to stay with us it was as we feared, he seemed to be quite depressed, and just sat at the back of his kennel. He was just not himself, he was really missing Nugget.

So we made it our mission to make his time with us as positive as possible. When pets stay with us there are a range of extra services that owners can spoil them with. We have our playtime sessions, pamper packages, heat pads, coat hire and the list goes on, all available for a reasonable additional fee.

In Buster's case we decided that we needed to find him some new friends to take his mind off how sad he was feeling. At first we allocated special time for him with our fabulous volunteer Puppy Huggers which Buster really seemed to enjoy. We find this special one on one time so valuable in helping nervous and shy dogs to feel more at home.

We then decided on a couple of candidates to be Busters playtime buddies, we picked Millie, a yellow Labrador and Bella, a Bearded Collie. It took a little while but Millie and Buster became firm kennel buddies. They spent their play times together and as the days went by Buster regained his normal cheerful disposition. It was great to see such a turnaround in him.
